The organizing body of the GRE examination (ETS) has not prescribed any specific eligibility criteria. The candidate registering for the exam should have a graduate degree or be in the final year of the undergraduate program. Additionally, students must meet the eligibility requirements set by the testing center, such as providing valid identification and adhering to testing policies. - Education Qualification: Test-takers in any field with a graduate degree from a recognized university can register for the course.
- Age: There is no age restriction for undertaking the test. Since the candidate should have a graduation degree, we can consider 20-21 as the minimum age limit.
- Grades & Experience: There is no minimum or maximum grade requirement and no work experience requirement to appear for the exam. Final-year students, freshers, and working professionals can apply.
- Language: The candidate must be fluent in English. This is because they are applying for programs and courses in English-speaking countries.
- Documentation: On the day of the exam, applicants must bring their passports as proof of valid ID. Those without a passport are not eligible to appear for the exam.
The ID requirements vary with the city and country of citizenship. However, the name entered during registration must match the name on the ID to be displayed on the day of your test.

Format
It is a multiple-choice computer-based test; however, some regions continue to take paper-based tests. GRE general test measures skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and abilities to analyze and evaluate written material. Moreover, it assesses candidates' command on arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis.
There are 1000 test centers in more than 160 countries. Besides, the organizing body also gives the facility to undertake the test from home. While giving a test from home, the test-taker must make sure that the computer and testing room meet the equipment and environment requirements.
The GRE has three sections in total: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing Assessment.
- The total duration of solving these sections is 3 hours and 45 minutes, including breaks and instructions.
- The exam is held once a year, and the score is valid for five years.
- Verbal & Quantitative reasoning is scored on a scale of 130-170 (1-point increment).
- Whereas the analytical writing section is scored on a scale of 0 to 6 (0.5 increment).
- Students can view their scores 10-15 Days after the test date.
Note: Students can send their scores to up to four institutions or business schools for free.
