About the Course
Law degrees are sought after by many international students with a legal career in mind. Although the completion of a law degree abroad doesn’t certify students to work in the legal profession, it is a great first step towards it. Legal education is a multi-purpose education provided to an individual before they start practice as a lawyer. An individual who intends to become a lawyer can start off by choosing legal education as the degree. Legal education trains individuals on principles, philosophies, ethics, history, and ideologies. An individual should be aware of the society he is intending to start practice in. He/she should acquire the fullest knowledge of the constitution and culture during the course period. Legal education imbibes ethical, cultural and legal values to produce good lawyers. A lawyer with good ethics is a necessity for society’s future.

Admission to courses in Law in some countries such as the UK, New Zealand and Australia, lets students study law straight after the end of higher education, and this applies to study abroad students too. Since Legal Studies is a popular and demanding subject, academic entry requirements can be high. The US and Canada however do not offer law programs at the undergraduate level and all students are required to hold a bachelor’s degree before entry to law school. Degrees in subjects such as law, economics, English and history will all strengthen your application. The minimum length of an International Law undergraduate degree course will typically take three years, followed by a one-year Legal Practice Course. Students can then apply for a training contract with a law firm. This last stage of your training is typically two years. More importantly, all foreign students will be required to sit for English Language tests like the IETLS test and score a minimum of 6.0 – 6.5 in order to demonstrate their capability and control over the English language.
Apart from the USA, United Kingdom, and Australia, Singapore and Canada offer some of the best curriculum for students who want to study Law as it opens up excellent opportunities for international students.
Depending on the specialisation and course pursued, law graduates can be lawyers or legal associates in law firms or even start their own practice. Corporates also require lawyers to form their legal counsel, hence this is another avenue law graduates can pursue.
