Founded in 1927, University of Bridgeport (UB) is a private, non-sectarian university and is home to a diverse student and faculty body from over 45 states and 80 countries. Its 56-acre campus is located on scenic Long Island Sound in southwest Connecticut. Bridgeport is the highest populated city in Connecticut and the local region offers plenty of things to do from shopping, performing arts and a zoo to museums and beaches. Located within an hour of New York City, students have access to job opportunities including internships in the world’s largest financial center. The staff in UB’s International Center for Students and Scholars is dedicated to comprehensive immigration advising and assisting students with adjusting to life at UB and in the U.S. In addition to assisting students with forms, maintaining status, on-campus employment, CPT and OPT opportunities, the Center hosts organized events including coffee hours, an international festival, Piece of our World Event (customs and cuisines of a country) and a Chinese New Year Gala. Students can join more than 60 clubs and organizations and UB offers more than 400 educational and social programs/events annually. Men’s and Women’s athletics are available, and athletes compete in NCAA Division II athletics. Housing includes six residence halls for undergraduate students and one hall graduate students. Residence halls feature tv streaming services, study lounges, free laundry, microfridges and 24-hour security. If students need ESL prior to starting their degree programs, UB offers its own English Language program on-campus. Conditional acceptances are granted for students studying in the English Language Institute prior to starting classes. Engineering, Business, Biology, Computer Science and Health Sciences are some popular degree programs.
UB is accredited by the New England Commission for Higher Education and has more than 4,600 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled. UB’s student-to-faculty ratio averages 16:1, so students will get all the personalized guidance and instruction they need. With 20 students or less in most classes, students will benefit from a truly interactive learning environment. According to U.S. News and World Report, the University of Bridgeport ranks among the U.S.’s top Colleges and Universities in the following areas: 3rd highest in the region for percentage of international students and 17th highest in the region for most ethnically diverse student body. University of Bridgeport is also home to the largest graduate engineering program in Connecticut and second-largest graduate engineering program school in New England. UB invests in its facilities and offers students state of the art facilities in including the Bauer Hall Innovation Center, high tech business center, advanced engineering labs, Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center, and a 24,000 square foot health science facility.
